The Artist.
Jonah Eberle is a sculptor at heart, creating wearable sculpture, alongside contemporary jewelry that exists in order to create eye-catching and unique statement pieces. His work is rooted in a deep curiosity in radical self expression. For Jonah, metal is more than just another material, its endless versatility has captivated Jonah, in his own words “metal is like water, it can continuously go through the cycles of change, yet unlike water one can decide where in that cycle they want it to reside.”. Jonah's obsession with metal began during his junior year of high school, as he played and explored manipulating metal in his intro art class and AP art class, his infatuation only grew, he then went on to graduate from Spokane Falls Community College's Fine art program, getting his Certificate in fine art with a focus in Sculpture.
In the future, Jonah aims to continue in creating what inspires him, with the long term goal of helping the next generations of artists to come.
The Process.
Jonah works with copper and brass, as they are much more abundant and therefore affordable. Jonah collects second use metals that people don't want, like old roofing copper, wire, ect. Repoussé and Chasing are critical to Jonah’s work. Repoussé is a slow metalworking technique where the surface of the metal is shaped by repeated strikes using hammers and punches. Every action has to be intentional, as each action changes the metal, this means the process requires control, rhythm, and patience. Chasing creates texture and line work on the opposite side of Repoussé . Jonah's Process is not about making jewelry that is purely aesthetic, he aims to make objects that feel alive, personal, and protective. Creating pieces that age with their owners.
